Welcome to the Stadt-gut-Hotel „Großer Kurfürst“ in Emden / East Friesland!
The Elector Wilhelm the 1st of Brandenburg, also called the “Great Elector”, wanted to promote the national and the maritime trading in accordance to the Dutch trading example. In 1680 he chose Emden to host the base of his electorate fleet. This was the beginning of the economic and cultural significance given to the city.
In 1932 Philipp Friedrich (the founder of our house) built a hotel called “Großer Kurfürst” almost in the same place where the old barges – commercial vessels, used to dock.
In1953, after the war and after the reconstruction of the city of Emden a new, larger hotel was created on the current site.
Our family-run hotel is a frequently visited hotel, also due to its central location – Art Gallery, theatre, market, regional museum, Ottohuus (museum displaying the career of the German comedian, Otto), harbour and railway station.
We provide our guests with the comfort of modern days to make their stay with us as comfortable as possible.
Our Stadt-gut-Hotel (City-Hotel) “Großer Kurfürst” is situated in about 16km to the World Heritage “Wattenmeer” (mud-flats) in the marshland.
